A quick side trip to Bear Flat Market last week resulted in a bag full of fresh, homegrown North Peace vegetables. About 25 minutes from Fort St. John, down Highway 29 towards Hudson’s Hope, sits the picturesque valleys, flats and the Peace River that make up Bear Flat. Even if you are not interested in vegetables the drive is worth the journey, though watch out for wildlife!
The local families have been farming the flats for generation producing watermelon, cantaloupe, corn, tomatoes, lettuce, swiss chard, broccoli, potatoes, cabbage zucchini and lots more.
To purchase your own tasty bag of veggie treats the Bear Flat market is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from noon to 7 pm or you can find them at the Fort St. John Farmer’s Market in the Curling Rink on Saturday’s from 9am to 3pm, until October.
